Does it Spark Joy?
Marie Kondo sparks joy at the Oscars!
OK fine. I'll write about Marie Kondo.
It's not that I don't like her. I'm actually (probably like you) very much obsessed with the tiny Japanese woman sweeping up the nation. Get it?! OK you do. You're smart. I'm sure you got that.
I just didn't want to write about her just because everyone else has.
However, when Marie Kondo shows up at the Oscars wearing a beautiful Jenny Packham dress, it definitely sparked joy in my heart!
I love Jenny Packham. Her designs are always so feminine and yet, very glamorous. And Marie Kondo always wears simple, but beautiful clothes on her Netflix show...usually in a skirt and top.
OK so what does this all have to do with money? I believe the KonMari method can actually help you save and bring in more money!
First of all, the KonMari Method is applied to your current belongings. You go through your clothes, books, papers, komono (or miscellaneous), and sentimental items and decide if they spark joy (keep) or not (discard).
The method helps you to detach from items that have outlived their purpose, especially when we often develop superficial attachments to clothes (I paid a lot for these shoes, it was my mom's favorite, maybe when I lose some weight I can wear it again...). It's a way for you to just keep in your house what truly makes you happy.
Then, the method teaches you how to recognize what gives you true joy, so that you buy, with purpose, what infuses your life with more meaning and positive energy.
Manifesting money works in the same way! Here are a few steps to take which mirrors the KonMari Method:
Declutter! Go through all of your physical, mental and digital "stuff" to get rid of anything that doesn't bring you joy. Thank and release it, so there aren't any regrets or guilt attached. Getting rid of the negative really helps to bring in more positive energy in your life.
Arrange and organize what you do have so that it creates more space. Physically, fold and put away clothes, the way Mari Kondo does, and it actually creates more space in your drawers! Clear out books and arrange them in a beautiful way to create space. Gretchen Rubin, who wrote The Happiness Project, even keeps one shelf completely empty. The reason to create space is to create more room for what you want to bring into your life.
Only buy and bring into your home (and into your life) what sparks joy! It should give you such a happy feeling inside whenever you see it. This actually helps you automatically save money, so you're not spending when you're unfulfilled or sad (emotionally spending). Rather, you're spending on something that keeps giving back to you! With this method, you know it was money well spent and this energy will bring in more of what you love into your life as well!
Finally, imagine your ideal life! What sparks joy for you? What creates passion? Whatever that is, lean into it! Do more of it! Make that a daily practice, whether it's a hobby or a career, because passion and joy fuels creativity, which sparks momentum...which ultimately gives you a path towards bringing in wealth.
