Full Moons, Mid-Autumn Moon Festival & Creating Abundance
Tonight is the Harvest Moon because it shines so bright, farmers can use it to harvest their summer crops at night! Since it's a Full Moon, my friends who know about this stuff reminded me that it's a good time to "cleanse" your crystals. I'm also hearing that this Full Moon's energies are powerful!
Since I'm Asian American, today is also a day my family and I are celebrating the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! The holiday is all about giving thanks for nature's abundance and to get together, with family and friends, by eating a lot of good food and the many varieties of delicious Moon Cakes!
The 1000 year old (maybe longer) tradition of the Mid Autumn Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival or just the Moon Festival started with a story of Chinese Moon Goddess Chang'e. My mom told me that she took an elixir which promised that she can live forever. However, after taking it, she floated up to the moon! So instead of the Western idea of a man in the moon, us Asians believe there's a woman living on the moon. My mom also told me to never point at the moon, as it brings bad luck and (an ear piercing?!). Not exactly sure where that one comes from, but I've been afraid of pointing at the moon since I was a little kid...
Now, on this day, farmers offer fruit, wine and mooncakes to the goddess in hopes of ensuring an abundant harvest. To bring in, or manifest, our own abundance, in life, in love and in money, from today until the New Moon, we should do three things:
1. Take the time to clear out what no longer serves you. What does that mean? It's time to declutter! Clean out your closets, your car, and your office! File paperwork, get rid of anything that you don't need, want or, go the extra mile, and get rid of anything you just don't absolutely LOVE and value anymore! If you still can't decide, look at the object, and really assess if it gives you pleasure when you look at it, touch it, smell it, etc. If it doesn't, then get rid of it!
2. Next, besides physical objects, now is the time to get rid of old stories that no longer serve you! How do we do that you ask? Well, first you must understand that there are facts, and then there are the stories we tell ourselves about the facts. Here's a fact: "I only had a goldfish growing up." Now, here's the story, I tell myself: "My dad never let me have a dog because he was too cheap."
The story doesn't serve me anymore because I'm a grown woman with my own home. So, it's time to let go of that story of my dad not allowing me to have a dog, so that if I wanted a dog today, nothing would be holding me back.
3. Finally, after you've decluttered your physical space and your old stories, it's also time to mentally declutter. This one takes more practice! Meditation helps. The quiet space you create in your mind, as you meditate, helps to quiet your thoughts and to bring awareness to the thoughts you do have. So, whenever there's a thought that no longer serves you, or one that you just don't want to keep thinking anymore, that's what most life coaches call a "limiting belief." Write it down, so it becomes more of a conscious thought, rather than just unconsciously holding us back. Then, a habit doesn't change just by getting rid of something. Instead, we have to replace the bad habit with a good one. (The New Moon, on October 8th is an awesome time, energetically, to start a new habit! Also, the first of the month is too.) So in order to shift a negative thought into one that we want to have, you have to write down the new thought and really practice thinking the new one, daily, hourly, whatever will help make it stick. I know...easier said than done, but I also have another, easier method to help you shift those thoughts! Sign up here, and I'll show you how to do it!
Then, tell me what you're decluttering before the New Moon in the comments section below! Or I'd love to just see you wish me a Happy Autumn Moon Festival! If you also need help clearing out any old stories that no longer serve you so you can manifest more money, sign up here for a free 1-hour financial assessment with me! I'm looking forward to freeing you from financial worry!
